Posted: Feb 11, 2016

Guidelines for Operators

Article 3(f) of EU Regulations 561/2006 – Specialised Breakdown Vehicles operating within a 100km (62 miles) RADIUS of their base “are identified as exempt from EU drivers’ hour’s regulations”.

Examples:

i) Specialised Breakdown Vehicles normally used within 100km, the operative receives an unforeseen call out which will exceed 100km radius – a driver card/chart MUST be placed in the tachograph immediately and recording commenced following receipt of the call.

ii) Specialised Breakdown Vehicles where it is known that the 100km radius will be exceeded – the operative MUST place a driver chart/card in the tachograph at the outset.

A Specialised Breakdown Vehicle is one whose fitments, construction and or other characteristics are such that it would mainly be used for removing vehicles that have recently been involved in an accident or had broken down.

The generally accepted carrying capacity being one on top and one behind i.e. slide/tilt – spec lift.
